New Service Gives Roaming Managers Real Time Network Insight
Evolved Intelligence, the network value added services company, has launched a new service that gives commercial and technical managers real time insight into their roaming network. SS7 Roaming INSIGHT gives managers a range of real time information feeds including traffic volume, anti-steering detection, blocked subscriber analysis, SMS fraud detection, MSU accounting and inbound roamer analysis.
This information is provided through an on line dashboard which can be configured with a range of “widgets” to suit the job function and interests of each user. Real time alarms can also be set against individual key performance indicators and alert users via email or SMS. SS7 Roaming INSIGHT also supports “drill down” issue analysis and provides reports on long term trends.

It can help you to get more roaming traffic, achieve better roaming margins and reduce fraud. Essentially this is an extension of the roaming health check that we have been offering to operators over the last two years. We have shown operators how to improve revenue by anything from 5% to 40% via these health checks. SS7 Roaming INSIGHT offers the same benefits on a real time basis with the added value of being able to monitor and report on longer term trends and provide real time alarms”.
The development of SS7 Roaming INSIGHT posed Evolved Intelligence a number of key challenges.
Nick Jones, CTO at Evolved Intelligence, explains: “The SS7 network generates a huge amount of data. We had to find a practical way to retrieve, organise and store this data so that reports could be run quickly enough to support “drill down” analyses. This meant applying a different approach to database design. We also had to design a new, low cost and loss-less, method to capture data from the SS7 network. This was finally achieved through a new design which involved modifying the kernel of the server operating system.”
SS7 Roaming INSIGHT is also based on application level SS7 knowledge delivered through advanced algorithms.
Said Nick Jones: “We have had many years of experience in designing active applications such as SMS fraud management, SS7 roaming steering, dialled number correction and advanced pre-pay applications. This knowledge has been encapsulated in a series of algorithms which are applied to the captured data. This means that we can spot issues such as anti-steering, SMS fraud and traffic lost due to CAMEL problems in real time. We are not necessarily doing anything that the operator’s engineering time cannot do, given enough time. However we provide it in real time, all the time. This gives managers a much better idea of what is happening.”
SS7 Roaming INSIGHT is available as a stand-alone system or as a remote hosted service. On-going SS7 consulting is provided with each system.
