The Roamer is Changing
The typical roaming customer used to be a technically savvy businessman whose phone bill is settled by his company. Today, thanks to changing social patterns and the ever decreasing cost of air travel, he is more likely to be a holiday maker, unaware of country and access codes, worried about the costs of making calls abroad.
Studies indicate that 40% or more of roamers never actually make a call. They also show that 6% of roaming calls are never completed. Although roaming charges are coming under increasing regulatory pressure, these figures represent a considerable potential for increased business. Experience in real world operator situations indicates that addressing these issues can boost roaming revenue by as much as 30%. It can also increase customer satisfaction and reduce churn. Because the implementation also leads to higher revenues for roaming partners, it can also help you to get better roaming deals and therefore improve margins.
Virtual Home Environment: Makes the Roamer Feel at Home
The Virtual Home Environment consists of a series of applications designed to help subscribers, especially inexperienced subscribers, to use their phone as easily as possible whilst roaming.
It does this by correcting the number that a roamer tries to dial. For example, a roamer might be used to dialing a short code to access voice mail at home. When he tries to do this whilst roaming, the VHE system recognizes where he has come from, and corrects the dialed number accordingly. This can be automatically implemented, or instead the system can ask the subscriber, via a variety of methods, if he wants the number to be corrected.
In addition to correcting specific network short code numbers, the system can manage general numbers that the user might have dialed without, for example, using the appropriate international access codes.
The Evolved Intelligence VHE system provides service for pre-paid as well as post-paid roamers. For in bound roamers the system can also provide service to roamers for networks without CAMEL in place (Our hosted service also provides service for outbound roamers through our sponsored CAMEL system).
The Evolved Intelligence VHE uses a progressive numbering management service. This service automatically monitors the performance of the system, noting numbers that are being miss-dialled. Corrections are then progressively implemented starting with the most common problems first. This approach maximises the coverage for the actual problems experienced by your roamers whilst, at the same time, keeps errors and "false positives" to a minimum.
How It Works
Virtual Home Environment is one of many application suites that can be run on the Evolved Intelligence’s advanced IN “ENGINE” platform. It uses a simple network connection system called a NIF or network interface function. This low cost, efficient, connection communicates to the ENGINE server which can be located anywhere; connectivity being maintained via IP or various alternative methods. The application can therefore be delivered remotely either from an Evolved Intelligence server or from one of our service partners. Alternatively the server can be located in your own offices and managed by your own team, an attractive option especially if you will also be developing your own applications for the ENGINE platform.
Remote Hosted VHE
You can also use our new remote hosted solution. This uses a revolutionary new approach to the delivery of remote applications delivered in co-operation with one of our operator partners.
There is no special equipment to be implemented in your network. There is no capital expenditure; just a minimal implementation fee. After that, there is only a simple monthly charge based on the number of roamers that the service is activated for.
It is also very easy to implement our service. All we need is a simple passive SS7 feed. If you don’t have your own existing SS7 probe to provide this, we can install a simple loss less probe for you.
You don’t even need your own CAMEL agreements to operate outbound Virtual Home Environment services. We work with partner networks with multiple CAMEL agreements and use these to deliver the service.
Once you are connected to the application, you can roll the service out incrementally. This allows you to test results as you go without any disruption to your service. The system even has a test mode that allows you to check what changes it would have made to dialled numbers before switching it on.
